Phase equilibria of size- and charge-asymmetric primitive models of ionic fluids: the method of collective variables

چکیده
We study the phase diagrams of z:1 size-asymmetric primitive models (PMs) using a theory that exploits the method of collective variables. Based on the explicit expression for the relevant chemical potential (conjugate to the order parameter) which includes the correlation effects up to the third order we consider some particular cases of asymmetric PMs (1:1, 2:1 and 3:1 systems). Coexistence curves and critical parameters are calculated as functions of size ratio λ = σ+/σ−. Similar to simulations, our theory predicts the reduction of coexistence regions as well as a decrease of critical parameters T ∗ c and ρ∗c with an increase of size asymmetry.

Gas-liquid critical parameters of asymmetric models of ionic fluids.
The effects of size and charge asymmetry on the gas-liquid critical parameters of a primitive model (PM) of ionic fluids are studied within the framework of the statistical field theory based on the collective variables method. Recently, this approach has enabled us to obtain the correct trends of the both critical parameters of the equisize charge-asymmetric PM without assuming ionic associati...
متن کاملPrediction of Vapor-Liquid Equilibria Using CEOS /GE Models
The present study investigates the use of different GE mixing rules in cubic equations of state for prediction of phase behavior of multicomponent hydrocarbon systems. To predict VLE data in multicomponent symmetric and asymmetric mixtures such as systems that contain light gases (nitrogen, carbon dioxide, etc.) and heavy hydrocarbons, the SRK equation of state has been combined with excess Gib...
متن کاملDetermination of Phase Diagrams via Computer Simulation: Methodology and Applications to Water, Electrolytes and Proteins
In this review we focus on the determination of phase diagrams by computer simulation with particular attention to the fluid-solid and solid-solid equilibria. The methodology to compute the free energy of solid phases will be discussed. In particular, the Einstein crystal and Einstein molecule methodologies are described in a comprehensive way. It is shown that both methodologies yield the same...
متن کاملHighly asymmetric electrolytes in the primitive model: Hypernetted chain solution in arbitrary spatial dimensions
The pair-correlation functions for fluid ionic mixtures in arbitrary spatial dimensions are computed in hypernetted chain (HNC) approximation. In the primitive model (PM), all ions are approximated as nonoverlapping hyperspheres with Coulomb interactions. Our spectral HNC solver is based on a Fourier-Bessel transform introduced by Talman (J. Comput. Phys. 1978, 29, 35), with logarithmically spa...
